Lake 8 at Woolpack Fishery is a roughly 7-acre former gravel pit, rich in natural food and shaped by the kind of varied underwater features — bars, gullies and plateaus — that gravel workings tend to produce, with depths ranging from just a few feet in the margins down to 17ft in the deeper gullies.
It holds a stock of around 100 carp, headed by a mirror carp lake record of 49lb 12oz. Alongside the original, much sought-after stock, further fish were introduced over the years, including a batch of young carp added in 2021 that have grown on well in the lake's clear water.
