Common Carp
Lac du Der-Chantecoq is the largest artificial lake in France, spanning somewhere in the region of 12,000-14,000 acres depending on water levels, and has a reputation as one of the most demanding big-carp venues in Europe.
Often described as an inland sea, Der rewards watercraft and mobility over simply sitting behind static rods — anglers typically use boats and echo sounders to track the lake's huge, nomadic carp across its enormous open water. Wind, shifting levels and sheer distance make it a genuinely expedition-style challenge.
The lake has produced some of the biggest public-water carp anywhere, with commons approaching and exceeding 90lb — Carpdex's own record for the venue sits at 97lb for a common carp, tracked here as 'The Der Common'.
