Cromwell Lake is an 18-acre spring-fed water near Newark, just off the A1, surrounded by willow, beech and pine woodland. Depths vary between around 3ft and 18ft, with gravel bars, silty patches and drop-offs giving the lake plenty of natural features to fish.
The venue was turned into a dedicated specimen carp fishery in 2004 with an aggressive restocking programme, and now holds ten different fish over 40lb and more than seventy over 30lb, including three over 45lb. Stock continues to be added most years from well-known fish farms, keeping Cromwell among the more serious big-carp waters in the East Midlands.
